About psychotherapy

Introductory therapy session

During your first appointment, you will talk about your reasons for psychotherapy, your expectations, and you will also define your goals.

Psychotherapy is an important life change, and because it deals with emotions, it is important to check beforehand what possible factors may hinder you (time, motivation, ideas and prejudices about psychotherapy), so it is important to talk about this.

You will also discuss with the therapist whether you want psychotherapy or counseling. You can read more about this topic in the article When to consult and when to psychotherapy?

Follow-up sessions

Here are some things to consider:

Punctuality

Punctuality is very important and your psychotherapist and you can talk about the healthy aspect of this. It is helpful to start the appointment on time to insure you can make the most of the whole therapeutic hour. Arriving on time helps you use your time more effectively. Your regular attendance indicates your good attitude towards therapy and the psychotherapist. You will either have a set weekly appointment at the same time every week or if you need more flexibility you can discuss this with your therapist. The therapist will not extend the duration of the session because you are late, as therapists have other clients booked. It also supports a healthy boundary around the structure and consistency of your therapeutic work.

Individual, Couple and Family therapy single appointments last 50 minutes (also known as a clinical hour). However some therapists do offer longer sessions (for example x1.5 hour or double session). Fees will be pro-rated accordingly.

Therapeutic agreement

You and your therapist will create a therapeutic agreement outlining boundaries and expectations for your therapeutic work.

Appointments' cancellations/rescheduling

Please discuss this with your therapist and familiarise yourself with their policy. Just a gentle reminder, we operate a no-refund policy.

Being open

Feel free to speak openly and honestly and take your time - your therapist is here to support you without judgement. Being open allows you to better understand what is going on and work together to address any challenges.

Paying for therapy

Therapy sessions are paid in advance: each appointment separately up to 48 hours before the appointment or once for the entire current month. For appointments that take place in the morning hours on Monday, payment must be made on Friday by 1 p.m. so that the payment is visible in the online bank on time. Please note the specified payment deadlines, because if the therapy is not paid on time, you will not be able to carry out the arranged therapy session.

How to approach in-person therapy

If you decide to meet with your therapist in person, at their premises, check the meeting location and leave home on time.

How to access online therapy via video call

In the case of online therapy, arrange everything you need for therapy in advance. Find a quiet place where no one will disturb you, and wait for your therapist's video call on the mojpsihoterapevt.si portal (where you must be registered). You will also receive an invitation to the video call by email.

For online therapy you need:

  • a personal computer or tablet with a sufficiently high-quality (built-in or additionally installed) webcam
  • internet and average speed
  • headphones - using headphones significantly improves sound quality

Before the first call, take 15 minutes to prepare:

  1. Check if the internet connection is working
  2. Prepare headphones - small telephone headphones will suffice
  3. Check the operation of the microphone and sounds (check the internet connection, prepare the headphones and log in comfortably)
  4. We recommend using the Chrome browser. If you don't have it, you can easily do it here: download Google browser
  5. Also check your browser settings. You must have a camera, microphone and pop-up window enabled.

A few minutes before the scheduled appointment, register on the mojpsihoterapevt.si portal. You will receive an invitation to a video call. You will also receive an invitation by email. Click on the Join button in the message and make sure you are with your therapist. The link will open in your browser.

To enlarge the therapist's picture, double-click on your therapist's picture and select the Fullscreen button, and to exit full-screen mode, press Esc.
