My name is Felicity. Welcome to my profile page. I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor with a history of working in wellbeing for over 6 years. My background in wellbeing and mental health settings has been diverse and enhanced my career as a counsellor from living in North America and learning to adapt to big life changes, to UK work experience including prison support, recovery from addictions and supporting survivors of abuse.
How I work
I can offer a friendly, compassionate, and non-judgmental space to help you work through difficult issues and emotions. My counselling approach is to actively listen and to put you at the heart of sessions and work towards personal growth and a deeper understanding of self. I am committed to showing respect and empathy for everyone's individual circumstances. I provide weekly, 50-minute one-to-one counselling sessions for adults 18+.
My approach as a counsellor is to observe patterns of behaviour that may be rooted in childhood which are being relived or repeated in adulthood. I will actively listen to your past experiences and explore with you how they have shaped your present, giving you the option to change if you choose to. The greatest aim of psychodynamic counselling and talking therapy is to reach greater self-awareness of the unconscious thoughts and transition to a better understanding of yourself, how you behave and thoughts that are conscious and intentional. As well as training in psychodynamic counselling, I also believe in a holistic approach which integrates sensory body work, mindfulness and NLP (Neurolinguistic programming) when appropriate.
What I have worked with and specialities
Family issues, self-development, anxiety and feelings of depression, women’s sexual health, infertility issues and sex and intimacy. Supporting people who have experienced different types of abuse, or who are currently in or have been in abusive relationships. Using grounding techniques and learning new ways of coping when feelings of stress and anxiety arise. Stabilisation stages of trauma, helping people who disassociate or struggle with emotional dysregulation and gaining a better understanding identity.
Training and Qualifications
Level 5 diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (DipHE), CPCAB Certificate in Counselling skills, Diploma in NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming), and a Batchelors Degree in Philosophy. I also regularly undertake professional development courses to enhance my practice and counselling skills.
